Making it feel like home

We have now been living in our apartment for about a week! Once we got all of the carpets out that first Sunday night, we've been in full cleaning and garage building mode. We still have a long way to go, but have made lots of progress! Last Monday my mom, Tommy, David's mom, Grandpa John and Grammy Pat all came over to help get the apartment live-able. Mom took on the kitchen and it looks great! I've made very few changes since she cleaned it up and got all of our things unpacked and organized. Susan and I tackled the living room area and the bedroom, washing the walls, the woodwork, the windows, the floors.... everywhere was covered in dirt, cat hair and smoke. I don't think this place has been cleaned in years! It's really quite disgusting (but getting better). Grandpa John and Tommy fixed the shower faucets, which apparently were BOTH leaking! David and I cleaned up the bathroom Sunday night only to discover that both faucets were creating puddles in the basement. While we all worked Grammy Pat made sure we were well fed with her delicious homemade soup, and helped Mom in the kitchen. By the end of the day, I was feeling pretty comfortable and ready to set the cleaning aside for the week.

This past weekend David and his parents focused primarily on the garage while I continued cleaning the apartment, with some help from Susan in the mornings. She washed more blinds, we both worked on the bathroom, and I made more progress on the living room. The place is feeling pretty good now! We are currently using the dining room as the living room, and the living room as a "storage" room for random things that don't have a place yet (it's actually pretty empty since most of our things are still in the basement). David has someone scheduled to come and refinish the floors in a week! Hopefully then we can start walking around barefoot :) Currently the varnish is peeling and the floors are pretty dirty (even though they've been washed multiple times) so flip flops if you want your feet to feel clean. See pictures below, and stay tuned for updates!
