Dear friends and family,
For quite some time now, David and I have been thinking about ending this blog. As you have surely noticed, we have struggled to post something weekly or even monthly. With the busy-ness of everyday life and David's commuting to CA, we have felt we barely have time to just live life, let alone write about living it. Also, with the main areas in our apartment finished, the rate at which we are doing home improvement projects has decreased and so we have felt we just don't have as much to write about. We hate that every Sunday night it nags at us that we didn't write a post for Monday and that we are not meeting our own expectations and that we are letting our (very limited set) of readers down. After a year of marriage, we have also come to appreciate just quietly enjoying our time with each other.
We began our blog about four years ago, in the summer of 2010 when we traveled to Prague and St. Petersburg. We wanted a way to efficiently update our family on the excitement of our trip. The blog has tracked our other travel adventures, the purchase and renovation of our 100+ year old home, the adoption of our two fur balls, our engagement, our wedding and marriage, our honeymoon, and other random events in our life. It has been great to have this all documented and to share our experiences with you. We never wanted to our blog to become big and public - we felt that sharing with people we didn't consider a close friend or family member took away some of the magic of our lives together.
We are so grateful that so many people we love take the time to read our blog. Thank you. I'm always amazed when one of our friends who we haven't talked to in awhile comments on something recent from our life that they have picked up from the blog. We didn't know anyone but our family read still this! Wow! We feel honored. We also know how much our grandparents in particular love getting blog updates from us so they can stay tuned with all of the new things that we are working on and doing.
Our main motivations for maintaining the blog this long have been to share pictures and anecdotes about our life with people we may not speak to on a regular basis. We still want this to be possible. Therefore, instead of the blog, we are going to organize our photo site on SmugMug chronologically so that friends and family can see recent happenings in our life through pictures. We will write captions where appropriate and try and share our stories as best we can in that way. When something big happens (like a renovation or a vacation) we will email people with a short summary and a link to SmugMug so they can get more details and see photos.
